Brakes and Brake Lines
Brakes—The mechanism that slows a vehicle down.
Brake Lines—Small diameter hoses and metal tubes that contain brake fluid. The system of tubes and hoses allows the brake fluid to flow from the master cylinder to the break calipers located at each wheel. Any leakage in the brake line can cause the brakes to not function.
Bumpers
The metal bar located on the front and rear of a car to protect the main part of the vehicle from any collision.
Car Radios
Musical devices contained within a vehicle. It includes an AM/FM stereo unit and speakers and often comes with a cassette or CD player.
Clutch Kits and Accessories
The device that allows the vehicle to change gears by disconnecting the engine and transmission. After the gear is shifted the engine and transmission are connected again.
Dashes & Gauges
Dashes—The location of the instruments and switches that indicate the functions of the vehicle. Also referred to as the dashboard or instrument panel.
Gauges—The instruments that measure gas, oil, etc. in a vehicle. They are located on the dashboard or instrument panel.
Decals
Stickers or other adhesive markings placed on a vehicle as identification or decoration.
Door & Door Accessories
The moveable side panel of a vehicle that allows passengers to enter and exit. Most vehicles have the panels hinged to open towards the front of the vehicle, if the hinge to the back they are called suicide doors.
Electrical
Any part or device in a vehicle that is related to the electrical system. The electrical system generates, stores and distributes current to start the engine and keep it running. The system also powers the vehicles interior and exterior lights, accessories such as the radio and the heating/cooling system. The electrical system is comprised of the ignition system starter motor, the battery alternator voltage regulator lights, electrical accessories, wiring, switches and relays.
Emblems
A medallion-like object attached to a vehicle to distinguish it.
Engine Compartment
Also known as the engine bay, it is the area of the vehicle where the engine is mounted.
Exhaust Systems
The system that transmits a vehicle’s exhaust gases into the atmosphere. It is comprised of the muffler, resonators and pipes.
Exteriors—Body Molding/Chrome
A protective plastic, rubber or chrome stripe located on the edge of the front fender, along the door panels, or on the rear of the back fender. It can be attached directly to the vehicle or it can be attached to a metal strip that attaches to the vehicle.
Fender Covers
Vinyl pieces with non-skid backing that can be placed on a vehicle’s bumper to protect it during repairs.
Fenders, Quarters & Rockers
Fender—Also known as the bumper, it is the protective metal bar on the front and rear of a vehicle that helps prevent damage to the main body of the vehicle during a collision.
Quarters—A shortened style of bumper or fender commonly associated with sports cars.
Rockers—The part of a vehicle located below the doors and between the front and rear fenders.
Floor & Trunk Pans
Floor pan—The metal bottom of the vehicle that is the foundation for many of the vehicle’s mechanical parts.
Trunk pan—The metal bottom of the rear of the vehicle where the trunk is located.
Fuel Lines
The hose or pipe that connects the fuel tank to the fuel pump to the carburetor or fuel injector nozzle. The hose or pipe can be made of metal, plastic and rubber and it transports the fuel.
Gas Tanks
Sometimes referred to as the fuel tank, this is the container that holds or stores the fuel required to run most vehicles.
Grilles & Moldings
Grilles—The ornamental covers or grating on the front of vehicle that lets air cool the engine.
Moldings—A part of the vehicle made of plastic by injecting the material into a closed on all sides mold. The material can also be shaped through compression within the mold.
Hoods and Trunk Lids
Hood—On a vehicle the hinged panel that covers the front section of the car where the engine is located.
Trunk Lids—On a vehicle the hinged panel that covers the rear section of the car.
Interior—Panels, Seats, etc.
Often referred to as the trim, these parts are the side interior covers, upholstery, linings and other decorative facings that comprise the inside of a vehicle.
1964-65 Console Parts
For Chevelle models produced from 1964 to 1965, the gear shift, gauges, panels and other parts that comprise the small storage area between the front bucket seats.
1966-67 Console Parts
For Chevelle models produced from 1966 to 1967, the gear shift, gauges, panels and other parts that comprise the small storage area between the front bucket seats.
1968-72 Console
For Chevelle models produced from 1968 to 1972, the gear shift, gauges, panels and other parts that comprise the small storage area between the front bucket seats.
1968-72 Shifter Handle/Assembly
The mechanism and parts that allows the transmission to change gears.
4-Speed Indicators
The display that shows the transmission gear that is currently engaged.
Carpet Kits
Replacement covering for the interior floor of the vehicle, possibly including the trunk space.
Carpet Sound Deadener
A method of sound reduction for a vehicle’s interior that is placed between the floor pan and the interior carpeting. Most common methods include padding, mats or foils.
Console Boot Retainers
A metal ring that holds the boot to the floor or console of the vehicle.
Console Boots
A rubber casing that covers the hole where the shifter is located on the floor or on the console, depending on the year of the vehicle.
Console Brushed Aluminum Inserts
Panels for the console or dash of a vehicle made from brushed aluminum.
Console Lenses
The covering for the shifting apparatus that indicates the engaged gear.
Console Shifter Tunnel
For vehicles with a manual transmission, the part that reaches from the bottom of the console shifter to the floorboard.
Console Top Plates
The outer covering for the area between the front seats that contains the gear shifter in manual and automatic transmission vehicles.
Dome Lenses & Bezels
Dome Lenses—The covering that goes over the vehicle’s interior roof light.
Bezel—A small light, such as a turn signal light, that is found on the dashboard of a vehicle or the metal ring that holds the glass covering over an instrument.
Door Panels & Accessories
The covered, interior section of the door; often the covering is made from vinyl.
Glove Box Emblems
The identifying object attached to the hinged opening of the small compartment located on the passenger’s side of the dashboard.
Glove Box Liners
The casing or facing found inside of the small compartment located on the passenger’s side of the dashboard.
Glove Box Trim Plates
The decorative metal or plastic molding that frames the small compartment located on the passenger’s side of the dashboard.
Headliners & Sun Visors
Headline—The upholstery or vinyl covering found on the interior ceiling of the vehicle.
Sun Visors—A hinged panel located above the windshield on both the driver’s and passenger side of the vehicle. It can be turned down to shield a person’s eyes from the sun.
Horn Buttons & Contacts
The button on the steering wheel or column that when pushed sounds the vehicle’s horn.
Interior Coat Hooks
The metal or plastic holders located on a vehicles interior ceiling near the back used to hang items.
Interior Fastener Kits
The screws and other means of attachment used within a vehicle.
Interior Kits
All the supplies needed to refinish the interior of a vehicle, including such items as seat covers, door panels and carpet.
Lower Steering Column Cover
The casing that encloses the shaft that connects the steering wheel to the gear assembly.
Pedal Pads & Trim
The covering that protects the accelerator or gas, brake, clutch and/or emergency brake pedal.
Pre-molded Carpet
Carpeting that is already shaped to conform to the interior of a vehicle.
Rear Deck Shelves & Insulation
Rear Deck Shelves—The ledge behind the back seats of a vehicle.
Insulation—Non-heat conducting material that protects the vehicle interior from heat and cold.
Seat Covers & Accessories
The fabric that encases a vehicle’s seats as well as the other components of a seat, including head rests, bumpers and chrome.
Shift Balls
The knob attached to the gear changer.
Shifter Humps
A formed piece of metal that surrounds the shifting column.
Steering Column Seal
A protective plate located at the base of the steering column or shaft.
Steering Rag Joint
A flexible, doughnut shaped ring that is mounted on the ends of the shafts to connect the steering wheel shaft to the steering gear.
Steering Wheel Hubs
The connecter by which a steering wheel attaches to the steering column.
Steering Wheels
The circular device used to control the direction of a vehicle’s movement.
Transmission Cable
A connecter between the transmission and the shifter.
Locks & Keys
Locks—The fastening devices used to secure a vehicle from opening without a key.
Keys—The device used to unlock a vehicle’s doors.
Mirrors
A reflective device located outside the driver and front passenger windows, and within the center of the front interior of the vehicle to give the driver views of the road.
Paint Stencil Kits
Outlines used as a template to decorate a vehicle’s exterior.
Radiators
The device within a vehicle that cools the engine by circulating water through a series of channels.
Rear End & Axles
Rear End—The back section of the vehicle that extends from the rear seat pan to the rear of the car and includes the floor of the trunk.
Axles—The shafts on which the wheels revolve.
Suspension
The grouping of joints, shock absorbers and springs, among other mechanisms, that keeps a vehicles’ wheels in contact with the road. The assemblage also cushions the vehicle from any bumps in the road.
Tops—Convertible & Vinyl
The roof of a vehicle; convertible tops retrack.
Weather-stripping & Rubber
A seal made of rubber that is fitted around parts of the vehicle to prevent air, moisture and water from entering the interior.
Wheels and Wheel Wells
Wheels—Circular devices that rotate to propel a vehicle forward.
Wheel Wells—The openings on the exterior of a vehicle that house the wheels.
